CNC Process & Machinery Overview
The CNC machining process involves using a computer to control a machine that removes material from a workpiece. The process is automated and repetitive, and can be used to create custom-designed parts. There are many different types of CNC machine processes, including milling, drilling, laser cutting, EDM cutting, and lathe work. CNC machining is a subtractive manufacturing process that uses computerized machine tools — the machine uses programming codes to direct tools to chip at (subtract) a material.
CNC machines are classified by the number of coordinate axes — 2-Axis, 3-Axis, 4-Axis, 5-Axis, 6-Axis and up to almost 12-axis CNC machines. CNC machines are essential in everyday life because they are used to manufacture a wide range of components found in everyday products, including car parts, electronics like phone components, medical devices, tools, appliances, and even parts for eyeglasses, making them integral to the functionality of many things we use daily.
Autocoat is a 35-year-old company and has worked with most CNC manufacturers for the painting of CNC machinery parts and the products made by them. Due to our experience in most of the painting and exhaust sectors, we were also awarded CNC Paint Booth projects for painting CNC parts.
CNC Paint Booth in India

Above is the diagram of a regular CNC machine with the description of parts to be painted and to be powder coated. Usually the heavier parts of a CNC machine such as Base and Work Table are the most important parts to be painted in a CNC paint booth. There are very few CNC companies in India that do CNC parts painting in a CNC booth. The photo shows the internal parts of the CNC machine on the left, whereas the right side shows the external visual of the CNC machine.
Painting of CNC machine tools is faster when compared to powder coating of external enclosures. After the guide ways, worktable, back column, and base are manufactured, the parts are thoroughly cleaned with degrease, derust and phosphate solution to enhance the surface area of castings. All chemicals used to clean the components are water-based. Before CNC automotive painting application, it is necessary to dry the components by compressed air blowing method. Note: Painting over water could create air bubbles and paint peel off. A civil washing area is a simple solution for pre-cleaning of casting, for low budget and less painting quantities.
Spray Booth for CNC Machine Tool & Parts
After the cleaning and drying of the wet parts and castings, these heavy parts are transferred to the CNC machine paint booth by overhead factory crane or with manual forklifts. Note: The first primer paint is applied on the parts at the vendor’s factory for weather protection. Now the machine tool parts and CNC parts free from oil and rust are applied with one extra coat of primer to add the DFT of the parts with regular or airless spray guns.
The photos show the actual CNC paint booth in India supplied by Autocoat Engineering — this is a downdraft booth with multiple blowers for extraction of waste paint spray. The open-top paint booth model works excellent for large CNC and machine tool components painting as an EOT can be used to lift or lower the heavy casting or machined beds during painting. Most manufacturers of CNC parts use grey paint in mat finish for their components, as glossy paints become dull in the open air. For machine tool parts to look new and beautiful, mat black or grey paint often serves the purpose.

CNC milling machine parts which are heavy and cannot be shifted more times are placed in the middle of the paint booth so that the painter can access all the surfaces to be painted. The other less-weighted parts are placed near any one of the extraction chambers for painting, and used like a side draft booth for CNC parts painting.
The design of our CNC machine painting booth consists of multiple layers of metallic baffles, which capture the minute paint particles by pressure reduction method and in turn reduces the cost of filter changing and replacement activity. There is a substantial filter replacement cost saving in the Autocoat paint booth for CNC product painting.
Autocoat CNC Paint Booth – Key Features
Autocoat’s CNC Paint Booths incorporate the following proven design features:
- Designed for CNC Machine PartsPurpose-built for heavy CNC components — bases, worktables, back columns, castings and precision machined beds.
- Downdraft Airflow ConfigurationOpen-top downdraft design with multiple blowers for efficient extraction of waste paint spray from large CNC parts.
- EOT Crane CompatibleOpen-top paint booth allows EOT overhead crane to lift and lower heavy castings and machined beds during painting.
- Multi-Layer Metallic Baffle SystemMultiple layers of metallic baffles capture minute paint particles by pressure reduction, drastically reducing filter replacement cost.
- Side Draft Mode for Small PartsLess-weighted CNC parts placed near extraction chambers can be painted in side draft mode for optimal efficiency.
- Primer & Topcoat CompatibleSuitable for applying both primer coats and topcoat (mat grey/black) finishes as preferred by CNC machine manufacturers.
Compliance & Safety Standards
A correctly designed and installed Autocoat CNC Paint Booth fulfils all of the following:
Operator Safety
Downward airflow and multiple extraction blowers continuously move solvent fumes and paint overspray away from the painter’s breathing zone, meeting OSHA safety requirements.
Fire Safety
Efficient extraction of flammable solvent vapours by multiple blowers eliminates fire risk in and around the CNC machine spray painting area.
Pollution Norms
Autocoat’s multi-layer metallic baffle and filter system meets Particulate Matter pollution norms as per Indian regulatory requirements.
Paint Finish Quality
Controlled airflow in the CNC painting enclosure ensures a high-quality, dust-free mat or gloss finish with no overspray contamination on wet painted surfaces.
CNC Paint Booth Applications
Autocoat CNC Paint Booths are the preferred choice for painting precision machined components and CNC machine parts across Indian industry:
