About Automotive Paint Booths
Automotive Paint Booth is normally also known in local language as a Car Paint Booth. With the vast development in manufacturing of the automobile sector and more and more companies entering the market, lots of new and old car models are available. Whenever a car or two-wheeler is manufactured in an automobile company, it undergoes many manufacturing processes before it enters the auto paint booth stage.
Parts like car body, bumpers, chassis, doors and engines are manufactured separately in different areas of the automotive factory or at sub-vendors’ factories. These painting lines consist of a series of painting booths with a 3-coat process.
During the painting process, automobile spray booths are totally enclosed and connected with fresh air supply systems from inside and outside — so that the painting area and the outer areas are thoroughly dust-free and parts remain free from any unwanted dirt and dust. Due to large production capacities, normally all car and two-wheeler paint shops use conveyorised automobile spray painting booths to reduce handling of components.
Automotive 3-Coat Painting Process
Car painting or automobile painting is bifurcated into different stages in a series of painting booths with a 3-coat process:
Base Coat Booth
This is the part of the automotive paint booth where the product, after cleaning and surface pretreatment, enters the spray booth and is applied with primer paint or base coat. This forms the adhesion layer for subsequent coats.
Finish Coat Booth
The component travels to the finish coat booth — the automobile spray booth zone where the actual colour coat is applied by spray guns. This defines the final colour and appearance of the vehicle.
Lacquer Spray Booth
After an intermediate timing, the component passes through the lacquer spray booth — where a layer of lacquer is applied which gives the glossy finish to the product. Parts then enter the heating oven or baking zone.
Parts with application of all three paint coats enter the heating oven or baking zone to get cured at a very high temperature of 120 to 180°C. Once out of the curing oven, the parts can be used for assembly and sub-assembly processes. The fuel used to bake these components is normally diesel heating or gas heating.

Spray Bake Paint Booth – Garage Paint Booth
As explained, there is an elaborate process for painting carried out by parent car or two-wheeler manufacturing companies. But such in-depth paint technology cannot be carried out on an accidental, damaged, repair or old car to be repainted. The cost of painting plants in OEM factories ranges from Rs. 2 Crore to Rs. 300 Crore — which cannot be purchased by local dealers or vendors. Therefore, Spray Bake Paint Booth technology comes in as a Garage Paint Booth — a miniature model of the fully integrated painting system.
For very specialised paint booths with inbuilt oven, Autocoat has a tie-up with a company from China — M/s Guangdong Jingzhongjing. These devices are far superior when compared to Indian-made spray bake booths. Autocoat imported spray bake paint booths are aesthetically state-of-the-art equipment when compared to local Indian-made booths.

Separate Exhaust Blower
A dedicated exhaust blower is suitable to carry out all waste spray from the painting zone — ensuring efficient overspray removal throughout the painting cycle.
Fresh Air from Ceiling — Up to 5 Micron
Separate set of blowers provide clean air from the top ceiling plenum chamber — up to 5 micron dust count depending on the finish needed — for a truly dust-free painting environment.
PUF Sandwich Panels
External panels are double-layer steel with Polyurethane PUF insulation between — also known as sandwich or cold storage panels. High durability with good insulation parameters for the drying mode.
International Electrical Standards
All electrical items used in Autocoat garage paint booths are of international and European standards — ensuring after-sales and spares are easily available in any country.
All Filters — Pollution Norm Compliant

Multiple Size Options
Available in multiple size options — from standard car paint booths to SUV paint booths to customised models. Basement type or civil type based on car weight.
Prep Stations Available
Autocoat also provides prep stations / preparation stations — where finishing of the damaged car body can be carried out so that external dust and dust from grinding and sanding operations are removed constantly.
Spray Bake Booth – Two Operating Modes
The Spray Bake Paint Booth (Garage Paint Booth) works on twin modes — seamlessly switching between painting and drying functions in a single enclosure:
Mode 1 — Painting Mode
All blowers active — continuous fresh air supplyIn this mode the car body or the damaged part is thoroughly cleaned and wiped, then spray painted with the suitable colour in the spray booth cum oven.
- All blowers in working mode
- Overspray channelised through series of filters
- Paint dust sticks to filter mesh
- Air along with thinner & fumes moves to exhaust chamber
- Exhaust leaves system through exhaust air duct
- Second set of blowers push fresh air from outside through clean filters
- Clean environment maintained inside painting chamber continuously
Mode 2 — Drying Mode
Circulation only — heating up to 80°CIn this mode the spray bake paint booth is used as a curing oven for drying the freshly painted car body inside the booth.
- Exhaust blower of garage paint booth goes offline
- Only circulation blowers remain in motion
- Specialised auto damper stops outside air
- Inner air only recirculated — no exchange with outside
- Heating element generates heat combined with circulating air
- Hot temperature created inside spray bake booth
- After heating cycle — product cools inside booth before removal
- Maximum temperature in Drying Mode: The temperature achieved in a garage spray booth can go to a maximum of 80°C.
- Heating options available: Electrical heating, Gas heating or Diesel heating — spray booth cum oven versions available in all three fuel types.
- Production limitation: Paint booths with oven combination are suitable for very low painting volumes — 2 or 3 car bodies per day. Cannot be used for a production facility — for high-volume automotive production, a full OEM conveyorised painting line is required.
