About Pultrusion & FRP Fencing
Pultrusion is a manufacturing process that creates fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) parts with a consistent cross-section. It is a continuous, automated process that uses a heated die to shape the composite — converting fibre reinforcements and resin matrices into finished composite parts. The pultrusion process involves pulling the fibre reinforcement through a heated die using either continuous strand mats or rolls of filament.
Pultrusion machines are available in India and from overseas. Pultruded FRP (fiberglass-reinforced polymer) products can last 20–30 years, or even over 40 years depending on the type of FRP and the conditions it is used in. The three types of roving used in pultrusion are smooth roving, textured roving and monofilament roving.
The pultrusion process is mainly used to produce FRP fencing railing — the most common FRP fence product. The FRP/GRP fencing railing can be used as road dividers and industry guardrails on account of their solid structure. Infill sections can be circular, square and rectangular tubes.
Why a Paint Booth for FRP Fence Painting?
Even today, painting of FRP components is done in a very crude technique by smaller FRP vendors who do not have a dedicated FRP Fence Paint Booth. Spray Booths for FRP Boundary Fences in India are now recognised as an important requirement for good finishing technique.
- Time-consuming and labour-intensive
- Does not give the required finish quality
- Uneven colour coverage on all sides
- No overspray control — messy environment
- Crude technique — no quality standard
- Paint does not penetrate textured FRP surface evenly
- Even surface painting on all sides of components
- Clean finish with controlled overspray
- Faster than brush painting — higher throughput
- Consistent finish quality across production runs
- Operator safety — fumes extracted efficiently
- Meets pollution norms for particulate matter
FRP Fence Painting – Booth & Process
Pultruded FRP painting is manufactured in two parts — the main columns and the internal/grated sections separately. After the manufacturing process is completed and the product has cooled off, most components are painted in a Paint Booth for Pultruded Products.
Most manufacturers of FRP Fence use mat black paint for their components as the use of glossy paints tends to become dull in open air. For the fence to look new and beautiful, mat black paint often serves the purpose. Maximum care must be taken while selecting the black paint — it must dry fast and create dry, non-sticky dust from the overspray.

The grated middle section of the FRP fence is painted horizontally while the main box sections are painted vertically. Paint sprayed in a Spray Painting Booth for FRP Fence creates an even surface painting on all sides of the components — producing a clean finish with visible texture that gives the FRP fence its distinctive appearance.
Two Methods of FRP Component Painting
FRP components are painted using two methods — each suited to different production requirements and finish specifications:
Gel Coat Application Method
In-mould FRP finishingGel coat is applied over the FRP moulds and the moulds are kept in an FRP Fencing Railing Booth during the application and setting process.
- Applied directly over FRP mould surface
- Controlled environment in fencing railing booth
- Excellent in-mould colour and surface quality
- Suitable for smooth finish GRP/FRP products
- Commonly used for moulded FRP panels
Direct Painting Method
Post-manufacture spray paintingApplied after the product is manufactured — a series of grinders and buffs are used to create a smooth surface before multiple layers of thick paint are applied.
- Surface prep with grinders & buffs first
- Multiple layers of thick mat black paint
- Vertical painting for main box columns
- Horizontal painting for grated mid-sections
- Applied in dedicated FRP Fence Paint Booth

Equipment Required for FRP Fence Spray Painting
For the spraying of mat black paint on pultruded fencing, the following accessories are required alongside the dedicated FRP Fence Paint Booth:
- FRP Fence Painting Booth (Dry Back or Water Wash type)
- Pilot spray gun for precise paint application on FRP profiles
- Air hoses — suitable length for booth dimensions and component reach
- Air compressor with adequate capacity for continuous spray painting
- FRL unit (Filter-Regulator-Lubricator) to remove water and moisture from compressed air
- Mat black fast-drying paint suitable for FRP/GRP substrate
- Grinders and buffs for surface preparation (direct painting method)
Autocoat is a 35-year-old company that has worked with most products and companies in the painting and exhaust sectors. Due to this wide experience, Autocoat was also awarded projects for manufacturing Painting Booths for Pultrusion FRP painting. Every FRP Fence Paint Booth is manufactured, assembled, numbered, tested and live trials are given to the customer for their complete satisfaction. As the pultrusion method grows faster for making fence and grating, the population of FRP Fencing Railing Booths in India is also on the rise.

FRP Fence Painting Booth – Key Features
Autocoat FRP Fence Painting Booths are designed and manufactured with the following key features for pultruded product painting:
AutoCAD Engineered Design
Every FRP Fence Paint Booth is designed to the exact dimensions of the pultruded sections — accounting for vertical column painting and horizontal grated section painting positions.
100% In-House Manufacturing
Manufactured, assembled, numbered and tested entirely at Autocoat’s Thane facility — with live trials conducted before dispatch to the customer’s site.
Pollution Norm Compliance
Overspray capture system ensures compliance with Particulate Matter pollution norms — essential for facilities operating in industrial estates with strict environmental requirements.
Operator Safety
Adequate exhaust velocity keeps the operator’s breathing zone free from paint fumes and overspray during continuous FRP fence section painting operations.
Bolted, Dismantlable Design
Autocoat paint booths are completely bolted and can easily be dismantled and shifted to any factory location — minimising hassle during plant layout changes or relocation.
